Electrical Specifications


ELECTRICAL SPECIFICATIONS

  1. The minimum residential service installed or upgraded shall be 100 amps, 120/240 v. The minimum commercial service shall be 200 amps single-phase or 100 amps three-phase.
  2. A minimum of three (3) size #3 copper wires in conduit is required for a 100-amp service. A minimum of three (3) size 3/0 copper wires in conduit is required for a 200-amp service. Allowed wire types are RH, RHH, RHW, THW, THWN, THHN, AND XHHW. NO ENTRANCE CABLE IS ALLOWED. NO ALUMINUM WIRE IS ALLOWED.
  3. The neutral wire must be clearly identified on both ends.
  4. If underground service is required the contractor must provide the trench; that is at least 36” deep and free of rocks and foreign objects. The contractor must supply conduit for riser pole, for any paved or concrete areas, and from the meter base to the underground. Check with the Lebanon Utilities regarding the services they provide and their cost.
  5. For overhead service, the riser is to be 2” rigid conduit for both 100 amp and 200 amp services. Use pipe straps accordingly. If the riser is not contacted directly, PVC or EMT may be used. If the riser is contacted directly only rigid steel will be allowed. Only 2 hole metal straps securely fastened to structural members will be allowed.
  6. Maximum height of conduit above roof shall be 3 feet. Anything higher must be guy-wired or supported. Minimum height of conduit shall be 18” above the roof.
  7. Service entrance wire shall be 18” to 36” long at the weather-head, and the neutral must be marked for identification.
  8. The center of the meter base shall be 5’ ft. to 5-½’ ft. above final grade.
  9. New construction and upgrade of service must comply with specification # 8.
  10. When the electric panel is upgraded the meter base must be the same or higher amp service than the panel.
  11. Locknuts and bushings are required in the meter base.
  12. If the fuse or the breaker disconnect box is not adjacent to the meter base, the customer shall install a disconnect switch, which must have the capacity of the main. A maximum of 3 ft. of wire is allowed once the wire has passed through the wall and into the building.
  13. An 8’ to 10’ ft. ground rod must be driven near the meter. A minimum of 18” out and 6” below the surface.
  14. All services must have a number four copper ground wire connected with the proper grounding connector to the ground rod. Do not cover before inspection.
  15. Interior wiring shall not be smaller than number 12.
  16. All other wiring shall be in accordance with the National Electric Code.
  17. All new construction rough in requires one G.F.I. receptacle for contractor use.
