Activity: LPD answers approximately 18,000 calls per year

Operations: The patrol division is organized into 3 shifts (day, afternoon & evening), each headed by a Captain. The investigative division, currently comprised of 2 officers, works flexible hours and is headed by a Captain. The business office is open M-F 8 a.m.-4 p.m. with a lunch break.

The department maintains several specialized units that are comprised of patrol officers who volunteer for these extra duty assignments. Some of these specialized duties/assignments include: Evidence Technician, Boone County Special Response Team, Water Response Team, Bicycle Patrol, Firearms Instructor, Emergency Vehicle Operations Instructor, Defensive Tactics Instructor, D.A.R.E, County Child Protection Team, Boone County Drug Task Force, Breath Test Operator’s, Field Training Officers, Canine Officer and others.

Training: The department constantly seeks the best training available within the United States and is proud of the level of certification, expertise and experience of its officers. Every officer receives yearly (in many cases monthly) training on: Domestic Violence, Haz-Mat, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), firearms, emergency vehicle operations, defensive tactics and legal updates.
